  1. General Information about the Registry.
  2.  
  3. The Australian Bulletin Board System Registry (or BBS Registry
  4. for short) was formed to attempt to resolve the age old problem
  5. of obsolete Bulletin Board lists.  Part of the philosophy of the
  6. registry is to make it worthwhile for all operators to list their
  7. system with the registry and to make use of the listings.
  8.  
  9. One method of making the listings attractive is that the issue of
  10. the lists is totally regular, on the first monday of each month
  11. the registry publishes a new version of the listing.  This
  12. listing is clearly marked with the creation date and time and is
  13. also given a release number (this release number is normally the
  14. year and month of issue, the January 1987 list would be given a
  15. release number of 8701).

  17. The idea of providing the files is that they are available to
  18. anyone, sure there is a copyright notice, but that is to protect
  19. the viability of the lists not to stop people using them.  If you
  20. make commercial use of the listings at least pay for some of the
  21. cost of running the registry.  Permission is specifically given
  22. for anyone to use the lists, in any form, so long as
  23. acknowledgment to the registry is given in the form "List
  24. published by the Australian BBS Registry" and that the release
  25. number of the registry is included with your list, easy isn't it.

  27. Most Australian FidoNet systems carry the current list, this is
  28. because the Network Coordinators of Fido support the idea of
  29. up-to-date listings, this does not mean the lists are FidoNet
  30. only, they a FREE TO ANYONE.  Look for the listings on your
  31. favourite system, if they are not there ask you sysop to get them
  32. for you, otherwise call the state coordinators bulletin board and
  33. get it from there, or try your nearest FidoNet system. If all
  34. else fails dial (07) 5426-8557 and get it from me.

  36. Please help eradicate out of date listings, use the registry
  37. files, and if you find a system that is not listed or has
  38. inaccurate details advise the registry either by post, through
  39. one of the coordinators, on BBS_NEWS echomail conference, or by
  40. leaving a message to James Collins on The Galaxy GateWay.
